About One Mile
Are you looking for transformative experiences that take you beyond standard ‘flop and drop’ vacations? Seeking high-end getaways that nurture body, mind and spirit?
Welcome! You’re exactly where you’re meant to be. As the founder of One Mile, I believe that travel can be about so much more than Pina Coladas poolside (though there’s nothing wrong with that). Luxury wellness travel is all about creating space for transformation, self-discovery and renewal. It’s about returning home feeling fit, rested, and ready to take on the world.
The curated experiences you’ll find on this site are designed for travelers seeking serenity, exclusivity, nourishment, and adventure. Perhaps that’s you? Whether it’s an eco-conscious getaway in secluded tropical paradise, a personalized wellness program in a world-class health retreat, or a cultural immersion that leaves you enriched, One Mile will help you engage with the world through a lens of rejuvenation and refinement.
Want a taste of what’s to come? Some of the most popular stories on this site include:
- Rest and recharge at Gwinganna Lifestyle Retreat
- Dive into Lady Musgrave Island tours and treasures
- Make a splash while enjoying the benefits of aqua yoga
Read these and more to start crafting your own luxury wellness escape! Unusually for a travel blog, I don’t organize content by destination. However, if you’re looking for somewhere specific, you can always use the search bar to find your destination of choice.
About Denise Cullen
G’Day!
I’m Denise Cullen, a freelance journalist and photographer who’s been writing about travel for more than 30 years. I created this blog for travelers who are looking for the latest news and inside information on luxury wellness travel destinations. My goal? To share resources, reviews, tips and guides that will help you plan your first or next healthy escape.
I trained in traditional media and continue to contribute to Australian and international publications. You might have seen my story on the latest trends in hotel gyms in The Australian (Travel + Luxury), the first Indigenous-led tour in Queensland’s Scenic Rim in Explore Travel, new Sunshine Coast hotspots in The Road Ahead, or a challenging donkey trek in Australian Geographic.
I first dipped my toe in the waters of wellness travel after a break-up. My high school boyfriend and I were set to take a holiday together – until he met the woman who later became his wife! I suddenly found myself with a week’s holiday booked and no place to go. After casting about, I settled on a seven-night stay at Camp Eden on the Gold Coast, which I’ve since returned to again and again. (You can read my latest review here.) It wasn’t a luxury retreat at that stage, but I emerged lighter, fitter and happier, learning that travel can be transformative and that not every holiday has to end with a hangover.
